He began his career on stage, training at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre as the company’s first ever Ignition artist. His breakthrough one-man show Cartoonopolis is an exploration of life through the eyes of his autistic brother and his vivid imaginary world. The show toured nationally to venues including the Royal Exchange Theatre, Dundee Rep and the National Theatre. In 2025, it marks its ten-year anniversary with a debut at the Edinburgh Fringe at the Pleasance.

Lewis made his screenwriting debut with Ryan Can’t Read, a short film he also starred in. It can currently be streamed here. The film received international acclaim across BAFTA and Academy Award qualifying festivals, winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Edmonton International Film Festival and earning Oscar eligibility for 2025. His performance as the title character won him Best Actor at Tokyo’s prestigious Short Shorts Film Festival.

His recent screen work includes The Cage (BBC 1) The Game (Channel 5), Patience (Channel 4) and Anemone (Focus Features), the debut feature from Ronan Day-Lewis.
